About Reader’s Theater:

Reader’s theater is a dramatization that can be put into script form by acquiring or creating scripts adapted from literature. It allows for students of all levels to experience and develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Reader’s theater is a teaching tool that will guide the teacher in placing an emphasis on oral reading and oral expression. Because reader’s theater does not require the formal setting of a play, (setting scenes, setting props, costumes, etc…) it lowers the affective filter for students who are acquiring language or who may be shy during formal performances. It is really up to the imagination to work with reader’s theater. The goal could ultimately be to take reader’s theater to the next level and actually have a small performance once the students feel comfortable performing in front of an audience.
